Strain of the Week: Mar. 22, 2015 (White Russian)

“The Dude abides… I don’t know about you, but I take comfort in that.”  And so Sam Eliott ushers in the end of the Big Lebowski, one of my favorite films and the inspiration of an entire religion, Dudeism.  We are reaching all the way back to the 90’s with this week’s Strain of the Week, and not just with our Lebowski reference.  Serious Seeds’ White Russian is a hybrid of their AK-47 and the infamous White Widow, which couldn’t help but take home win after win in the late 90’s, including a Cup win in 1996.

AK-47, also from Serious Seeds, is a sativa dominant hybrid of a handful of landraces, including Colombian, Mexican, Thai, and Afghani native strains.  A Green House Seeds creation, White Widow can also trace its genetics back to the original landraces, this time a Brazilian sativa and South Indian indica, and makes up the second half of White Russians genetics.

The White Russian high fits the Lebowski theme as much as the name, since it embodies the major tenets of Dudeism.  White Widow brings energy, sociability, and creativity to the hybrid, helping to harbor an earnest connection with life, while the AK-47 is more smooth and mellow, embodying the laid-back attitude of the El Duderino, if you’re not into the whole brevity thing.  Together, these strains sedate the body and clear the mind, keeping you from being “very un-Dude”.
