Strain of the Week: Aug. 9, 2015 (Granddaddy Purple)

When talking about Granddaddy Purple, one of the most famous of cannabis strains, it is impossible not to give a nod to Ken Estes, the man behind the original Granddaddy Purp, or GDP.  However, much like with any modern day creation, imposters abound.  Whether your dispensary has stocked the name brand or a knock-off, Granddaddy Purple, a hybrid of Purple Urkle and Big Bud, is known for its frosty purple buds and symphony of candy grape and dark berry flavors, creating a sensory experience uniquely its own.

Overall, GDP is a weighty, high gravity indica that is capable of producing a couch-locking sensation.  However, with this sedation comes lofty relief from joint pain, muscle tightness, and migraines.  There is high concentrates of Cannabigerol or CBG present in Granddaddy Purple, which is largely responsible for the strain’s anti-inflammatory effects.  It is also known to work against the paranoia of THC and has anxiolytic properties.  Those suffering for gastrointestinal issues will appreciate its ability to settle nausea and stimulate the appetite.  Finally, due to its locking nature, Granddaddy Purple is most useful in the evening hours when it can be used to moderate your pain and help relieve insomnia without inherently slowing you down.
