Back in Black Infused Chocolates from Something Chocolate Review

Something Chocolate comes to us this time with quartet of gourmet chocolates with a rock and roll theme.  The link to great music doesn’t just encompass names linked to classic rock songs.  A little history about each of the songs is offered in the “liner notes” included with the chocolates.  Personally, I loved the music themed names.  When I inherited my father’s vinyl collection, these songs and the memories formed with them came with the records.  So each bite during my taste test then became a flashback, and when the songs inevitably got stuck in my head, I could go and listen to them once again.

Back In Black: My first choice in truffle contained a simple, yet creamy dark chocolate center that set the stage for the decadence to come.  I found this flavor to be plain, but only in the context of the rest of the box.  A good starter to your experience and an excellent display of the high quality ingredients included in these gourmet creations.

Black Water: Far from just a fantastic Doobie Brothers’ tune, Black Water is a surprising bombshell among the other truffles.  Made with cajun spiced dark chocolate and peanuts, this flavor is surprisingly spicy, reminiscent of a cayenne pepper.  Not one for the faint hearted, it has the same delightful kick as a well made Mexican hot chocolate.

Black Betty: Next up is the melt in the mouth hazelnut filling of the Black Betty.  My personal favorite of the bunch and a soothingly sweet relief after the sizzling Black Water, the hazelnut is unpretentious here.  Not nearly as sweet as Nutella, it is a complementary addition to the rich chocolate.

Black Dog: We receive a double dosing of almonds in this amaretto and chopped almond creation.  The almonds create a nutty crunch without being too much, while the bitter sweet amaretto cuts through the chocolate to accent the nuts from which it was made.

Each truffle was well made and delicious, with enough variation between flavors to keep the patient interested.  The dark chocolate used isn’t bitter.  It isn’t complicated.  It is just surprisingly soft and flavorful, making these gourmet chocolate truffles accessible across a range of palates.

Each truffle includes 20 mg of THC per individual chocolate, for a total of 80 mg in our sample boxes.  At my desired potency, a half to a full box fit my needed dose.  For those with a lower tolerance, a single chocolate could easily be enough.  Packaged as they are, they could make a delightful gift for the classic rock lover in your life or serve as an alternative to bringing wine to your next dinner party.
